(LA JOYA) – The Edcouch-Elsa Lady Jackets had a first half they would much rather forget on Friday afternoon.
E-E’s offense was colder than a block of ice as they could only muster up a total of 11 points in the first two quarters of play.
As for La Joya, their offense played fairly well as they scored 22 points and went into the half with a double-digit lead.
In the second half, the Lady Jackets offense heated up and finally got their motors running by scoring 10 in the third and 17 in the fourth.
And even though E-E outscored the Lady Coyotes 27-17 in the final two quarters of play, it just wasn’t enough as La Joya escaped with a 39-38 win.
Haley Villalpando was the leading scorer for the Lady Jackets as she finished the contest with nine points.
Edcouch-Elsa head coach Daniel Richardson talks about what the key was in the second half that helped his team.
“Our defensive intensity changed in the second half and that helped us to start converting on the offensive end,” said Richardson.
