(EDCOUCH) – Edcouch-Elsa girls’ soccer player Madeline Acevedo came into Thursday’s tournament game against Weslaco East a little upset with herself.
“I had a bad practice yesterday and was pretty upset about it, “said Acevedo. “So coming into this game I wanted a little redemption and was hoping to make up for it.”
That bad practice lit a fire under Acevedo as she scored not one, now two, but three goals in less than seven minutes and singlehandedly led the Lady Jackets to a 4-0 victory in their first game of the Edcouch-Elsa Tournament.
After Samantha Marin scored the opening goal for Edcouch-Elsa, Acevedo nailed her first goal at the 7:30 mark of the first half as she had a one-on-one opportunity with the goalie and slipped it in from the right side of the net to give E-E a 2-0 lead.
Acevedo scored her second goal of the afternoon as she faked out the goalie and nailed it in which gave the Lady Jackets a 3-0 lead at the 11:26 mark of the half.
The hat track was completed by Acevedo in less than three and a half minutes thanks to a laser shot which was completely out of reach of the goalie.
Acevedo said she was shocked to complete the hat trick and that it happened so quickly.
“This is actually my first time to complete the hat trick and I was surprised that I scored three goals that quickly,” Acevedo said. “Having a performance like this definitely makes up for a bad practice and I am so glad we got the win.”
“Our goal is to be on top of the standings in this tournament that way we will have an opportunity to play for first place and this win was a good step towards that.”
