(EDCOUCH) – The Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets basketball team’s style of play resembled a championship horse running in a big race on Tuesday night.

The Jackets came busting out of the gates and raced out to a comfortable 27-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

E-E continued to run their style of play as their speed and strong inside presence was just too much for Donna North down the stretch which in turn led them to a commanding 72-28 win.

Dustin Rodriguez was the lead horse for the Jackets as he poured in a team high 16 points while his teammates Mateo Salazar and Marcos Escobar completed the trifecta by scoring 12 points apiece.

The Jackets find themselves right in the thick of a wild and wacky playoff race as they currently sit in a two-way tie for second place in District 32-5A with a 4-2 record.

“Our plan was to push the pace while wearing them out,” said E-E head coach Lalo Rios. “We subbed five in and five out to keep fresh legs and the kids responded well by running the floor.”

“This was a good win for us and keeps us in the running for second place with Porter for second place.”
