(MERCEDES) – At one point in the match, Brownsville Lopez had a commanding 3-0 lead and it appeared they were well on their way to cruising past Mercedes.
But the Lady Tigers weren’t about to let Lopez leave their house without putting up a fight.
Mercedes scored two late goals to make it a game while trailing 3-2 late in the second half. Daniella Abundiz scored the first goal and Soledad Cruz converted on the second one for Mercedes with just a little over two minutes left in the game.
And while the Lady Tigers were able to shift the momentum in a comeback effort, the rally just fell short as they ran out of time.
“The girls showed a lot of fight tonight and never gave up,” said head girls’ soccer coach Roel Quiroz. “I talked to the girls after the game and told them I was proud of their effort.”
“But we need to continue to find the net and have to work on finishing as well.”
