(EDCOUCH) – Early in the contest, Edcouch-Elsa head softball coach Ruth Flores wasn’t too happy with what she was seeing on Tuesday night.
“We committed some crucial errors and that really hurt us,” Flores said. “We were making a lot of quick throws and couldn’t seem to execute on the defensive side of the ball.”
The Lady Jackets, who took the early 4-0 lead, committed error after error which allowed Donna High to tie the contest at four.
Over the next three innings, E-E and Donna High traded the lead three times and went into the fifth tied at six.
But then the Lady Jackets woke up and exploded with the bats in the fifth and the sixth as they scored a total of 10 runs and went on to grab a 16-6 win.
“The girls hammered down in the fifth and the sixth defensively and the bats completely came alive as well,” said Flores. “They woke up and finally started playing the way they know how to.”
“They showed a lot of grit and kept fighting throughout the entire contest. When it was all said and done, they got the job done and picked up the win. And while I am pleased with the victory, we still have a lot of things we need to work on. We have to execute in our pitching, fielding and on offense as well in each and every game if we are going to attain our goals.”
