(AUSTIN) – It’s safe to say that a few members of the Edcouch-Elsa Lady Jackets Track and Field Team had a record breaking weekend.
The weekend was highlighted by Bianca Cardenas as she shattered the Valley record in the Girls Pole Vault after hitting a 12’07 which was good enough for a tie for second place at the Texas Relays.
The previous Valley record was 12’05 and girls’ head coach Juan Aguinaga said she attempted higher totals in the event.
“Bianca was actually going for a 12’10 and a 12’13 on a few attempts,” Aguinaga said. “But she didn’t have the right pole to hit those totals.”
“She was able to break her own personal record and then broke the Valley record which both are major accomplishments. We took Bianca here purposely to show her what it’s like to compete on a big stage like the Texas Relays and how to deal with all the hoopla that’s involved in it as well. She handled it well and now we will work on getting her a bigger pole which will allow her to hit higher marks and quite possibly win the state title as well.”
The 4×400-Meter Relay and the DMR 1200-400-800-1600-Meter team made history by breaking school records with their times. The 4×400-Meter Relay hit a time of 10:56.77 and the DMR team finished their race with a time of 13:11.36.
“Both the DMR and the 4×400-Meter Relay teams had record setting weekends and that just put the icing on top of the cake,” said Aguinaga. “The 4×400 broke the school record two weeks in a row now and the DMR actually improved by 30 seconds.”
“All of these girls were personally invited to this meet and left as record breakers. All of them hit PR’s and I am just so proud of their accomplishments.”
On the boys’ side, the 4×800-Meter Relay finished in 10th place while the DMR team went home with a 29th place finish.
